Manual Osteopath Writes About NAO

Manual osteopath, Yasser Zia, DOMP writes why he chose to study at National Academy of Osteopathy:

As I went through the process of evaluating the various schools against my criteria listed above, one school began to stand out over the rest: NAO. This became my eventual choice. There were a few points which really tipped the scales:

1. The campus proximity to York University meant that it was in a central place in Toronto. It also meant accessibility via GO Transit.

2. The program materials adequately addressed “life after graduation”. To me this meant I would not be left in the dark as to what to do after I graduated (as was my experience with my undergraduate program). I was confident that Dr. P was the man to teach me about Osteopathy but also about life, business and establishing myself. The proof was in his background building successful businesses.

3. The fact that it was a FULL-TIME-5-days-a-week-on-campus program. All other schools were part-time programs spread out across 4 years. Further, too many of the other schools program materials seemed bent on ‘scaring’ the students into how difficult it was, and how 4 years was required to learn Osteopathy, and that anything less was dangerous etc. Quite frankly I found this shallow and unnecessary. It reflected an inferiority complex in my opinion. I saw nothing but positive messages from NAO. When I looked into Facebook groups, blogs, and whitepapers of NAO graduates I saw people similar to myself. People who changed careers. People who had a mix of backgrounds. People who supported one another.

4. Affordable tuition and reasonable time-frame for a career change: I had funds and a support system to last about 1 year. I simply could not afford to wait 4 years before I could make money again. But even if I did, I simply didn’t believe the scare tactics that me I could not learn Osteopathy in 1 year.

Canada's Soccer Team writes about NAO

Canada’s ex National Female Soccer Team member, osteopath Ann Shivas, DOMP writes about National Academy of Osteopathy (In Quebec, unlike the rest of Canada, manual osteopaths are permitted to be called osteopaths).

………………… I am happy I chose NAO, it allowed me to take full time classes without a summer break and gained the same amount of class and practical hours that other schools require………………….. The online component of NAO is great.  Students are always able to go back and review sections that they feel they need more time.  It was a great way to pace my studying, especially for the classes I found challenging.  One thing I really enjoyed was the business lectures by Dr. Pourgol.  I did not have a business background and after following his lectures, I now own a successful business.

Mother Speaks about Osteopathy

Here is a testimonial from mother of a teenager who received treatment from manual osteopath, Dr Bagrin, MD, DOMP (a graduate of National Academy of Osteopathy):

So Insightful and Beneficial!
I brought my 15 year old son to see Oleg because I had so many concerns about my son’s posture and some of his joint movements that did not seem right to me. I could not believe the insight and understanding Oleg gave us. He was able to explain so much - things that a GP and two pediatricians could not properly explain to me! After a 45 minute treatment, my son went home feeling relief from pain and tension he didn't even know he had. My son wants to go back! Thank you Oleg!

Mark writes about NAO

Mark MacKenzie, DOMP from British Columbia writes about why he chose National Academy of Osteopathy:

………………………NAO has a wide variety of teachers and students which provided many different perspectives, where ideas where challenged from many different aspects. I learned from, and studied with, Manual Osteopaths, Osteopaths (DO), MDs, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, alternative therapists, Massage Therapists, and many more! These people had a wide array of backgrounds, from young Canadians to mature MDs from war-torn countries. Their many different experiences shaped many different perspectives, which made for many interesting discussions, and these discussions highlighted the strength of NAO’s evidence based curriculum………………………….

Natalia Writes about NAO

Natalia Dzuybina, DOMP writes about her experience as a National Academy of Osteopathy student:

............... I am very satisfied with the contents of the program and had a wonderful time studying at the Academy. The professors are very well educated, approachable and helpful, more than willing to answer any questions and demonstrate first-hand practical skills........................... The Academy has one of the richest and most comprehensive databases which align with the curriculum, allowing every student to get the necessary and extra material on any subject or topic.............................Both the staff and students were very friendly and encouraged each other in their studies. As well, the class sizes were relatively small, which gave each student an opportunity to communicate with the professor one-on-one............... Furthermore, what stood out most to me about NAO is the amount of daily practice time the students got.

Did you know National Academy of Osteopathy is the first and only osteopathy college to be accepted as an affiliate member of the Ontario Hospital Association and to receive recognition award for teaching excellence from Ontario Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities?

Did you know almost all Canadian insurers accept treatments provided by our graduates and we were recently successful in obtaining osteopathy coverage for the veterans as well?

Did you know CIBC has chosen manual osteopathy as one of the top 25 occupations in demand in Canada?

To receive our information package lease send an email to admissions@nationalacademyofosteopathy.com. You can also visit www.nationalacademyofosteopathy.com for more information on how to become a manual osteopath.

Instant Success

What some of our students achieved are nothing short of miracle. Making their osteopathy practices booked up within a year is unheard of in any other health profession. We are quite proud of our alumni.

We are thinking to send a TV crew to a number of clinics to make a short interview of our graduates to show to the public what is osteopathy, what our graduates do and how successful they are.

Any alumni interested to be showcased should contact Rachel at admissions@nationalacademyofosteopathy.com.

NAO is Registered with Ministry of Employment of Canada

Did you know National Academy of Osteopathy is registered with the Ministry of Employment & Social Services of Canada?
This allows our students to receive thousands in tuition and textbooks tax credits from the Canadian Revenue Agency.

Modern Osteopathic Education

Some schools base their teachings solely on the classical view of osteopathy. We are opposed to it. Classic needs to remain in classic times.
We teach modern, applied, practical, useful, research based osteopathic knowledge that has been proven by time, practice and science.
We are elevating the profession. We are raising the standards of osteopathic education.

Tax Reduction Tip: No Tax on RRSP Withdraw

Tax Reduction Strategy (from NAO osteopathy business lectures on Friday)

Did you know, depending on how much you withdraw every year from your registered retirement saving plan (RRSP) after you retire at age 65, you may pay up to 53% in personal income tax to the government?

There is an alternative. By using a holding company, and a type of equity system set up through an insurance company you can set up a retirement saving plan that does not pay any tax at all!

This business lecture is now uploaded to our online video server for our registered students to watch.

One reason why our graduates are instant success is that we teach them everything we know about how to manage and market their business effectively.

The Lost Techniques of Manual Osteopathy

Did you know we, National Academy of Osteopathy is the only osteopathy school in Canada teaching the manual mechanotherapy techniques of H. R. Spitler, MD, DC, DO, PhD?

Dr Spitler was a medical doctor, chiropractor, osteopath and optometrist in Ohio, USA who invented a model of osteopathy techniques about a hundred years ago that dealt with soft tissue as well as osseous manual therapy.

As his techniques focused mainly on orthopedic conditions of musculoskeletal system, he fell out of favor with the osteopathy leadership of the time and his techniques were not taught in most osteopathic schools.

Manual mechanotherapy is now mainly practiced in Ohio by a group of practitioners calling themselves mechanotherpists. The techniques are considered the lost techniques of osteopathy.
Dr. Daniel Nuzum, NMD, DO (from Ohio, USA) has done a number of lectures on this technique which is now available for our students to watch at our video server.

To celebrate opening the first and only manual osteopathy university in the United States, in the month of May 2016 we are giving free access to all our updated and new videos to all NAO graduates once they complete an assignment. Contact Rachel or Luary if you wish to receive information on how to get your free user ID and password to our video server.

New Lectures: Sports Specific Osteopathic Care

Quebec osteopath, Ann Shivas, DOMP has joined our faculty to teach a number of lectures on sports specific osteopathic care. Ann is a graduate of National Academy of Osteopathy and a previous member of Canada’s National Female Soccer Team.

Her lectures cover advanced topics such as:
Testing sports specific arthro-kinematics
Analyzing whole body movements
Testing joint ‘buffers’
Athletic posture assessment
Mental stability/Concussions

We welcome Ann to our faculty.

Why are our graduates so skilled in osteopathy?

Our campus based students spend up to 100 hours per month in our technique classes. Most other osteopathic schools in Canada have a maximum of 16 hours of technique classes per month.
Our students practice more, learn more techniques than any other school and therefore become better clinicians.

The clinical skills of our students is evident in the high satisfactions of our patients at our student clinic and their own patients when they graduate.

We have so many people apply to our schools to study osteopathy after receiving treatments from our students.

Their skills as manual osteopaths and their knowledge of business management is what makes our alumni so successful in their own practice. This is why they love their Alma Mater so much!

GST

A post from our student Mark MacKenzie that is worth re-posting, in regards to HST (harmonized sales tax):

Ireceived the following in an email from a tax office in BC ( maybe not applicable in NS? PST vs HST?)

Thank you for your inquiry.

Provincial sales tax (PST) applies to sales and leases of tangible personal property (TPP), software, related services, legal services, telecommunication services, and accommodation.

The purchase of taxable TPP (goods) is subject to PST at a rate of seven percent.

Related services are services provided in BC to goods, such as repair, adjustment, restoration, reconditioning, refinishing and maintenance services, and services provided to install goods.

Services provided to an individual, such as osteopathy services, are not subject to PST.

Osteopathy Improves Function

Research finds osteopathic manipulative treatment improves function in patients suffering from chronic low back pain.

6 Osteopathy Sessions Decreased Disability by 50%

Research finds JUST 6 Osteopathy SESSIONS (in a period of 2 months) reduced pain and disability by more than 50% in majority of 455 patients evaluated. Research was published in the Journal of American Osteopathic Association (JAOA).

We always keep saying that our popularity and the reason we are Canadian's number one choice for low back pain relief is our ability to treat chronic pain. And this research proves it!

Silence Retreat

I regularly go to silence retreat and every day spend a few minutes thinking in silence. I teach this to my students as well. I just read a research that shows this actually (at least in mice) improves your brain!

My students, aside from learning osteopathy, learn everything I know about business management and life improvement. That is one reason we are so popular and our graduates so successful, financially and emotionally.

Why I became a Manual Osteopath

Manual osteopath; Justin Frankson, DOMP who practices in British Columbia, Canada has this to say about National Academy of Osteopathy:

National Academy of Osteopathy was the name of the school that gave me my preparation as a Manual Osteopath. I chose NAO because their program is very complete, also the institution has high standard models of teaching (I know this because I studied in a specialized and prestigious school of physiotherapy in south America). NAO not only teaches you about osteopathy but also helps you with business lectures, so you can manage your own business. The teachers are very knowledgeable with classes prepared in a way that its easy for you to understand.

NAO is not just a school, is a community where students not only become graduates but also family.

My name is Justin Frankson, DOMP, Manual Osteopath. Grad 2014. I work in Abbotsford British Columbia, Canada.
