NAO Student: Nutritionist Andrew Chan
Registered nutritionist & now a manual osteopathy student, Andrew Chan, (NAO Class of Sept 2014) practicing osteopathic Osteoarticular technique (prone lumbar PA on opposite TVP with leg lift) at the York University Heights campus of National Academy of Osteopathy in Toronto.
Nutritionist, as they are health professionals, are eligible to enrol in the accelerated DOMP (Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice) of NAO. They could become manual osteopaths in 6 months full time or 1 year part time.
NAO is an accredited manual osteopathy college, accepted by many associations in Canada, such as Ontario Osteopathic & Alternative Medicine Association (that is accepted by most insurers), College of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners of Ontario, Ontario Association of Osteopathy & Alternative Medicine, British Columbia College of Osteopathic Rehabilitation Sciences, Canadian Manual Osteopathy Examining Board, International Osteopathy Examining Board, International Osteopathic Association, Society of Osteopaths of Canada, Ontario Association of Osteopathic Practitioners, & Alberta College of Osteopathic Rehabilitation Sciences amongst others.
NAO is the only manual osteopathy college to be accepted as an affiliate member by the Ontario Hospital Association.
Our students are also eligible for full scholarships from the Metis Nation of Ontario and the WorkBC program of the Canadian government.
Manual osteopathy is one of the top 25 professions in Canada as reported by the CIBC. There is zero unemployment in this profession. Average income is $90,000/yr.
A 2012 survey indicates that manual osteopathy is the #1 choice of Canadians for low back pain relief as compared to physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture and medication.
